Western Asiatic Akinakes Short Sword
Date: 1st millennium BC
A bronze akinakes comprising a tongue-shaped
lentoid section blade with incised vertical bands
and scroll detailing to both faces, ricasso with
palmette and other motifs, chipped lower guard
with lateral lugs and two animal motifs either side,
short grip and papyrus-stalk pommel.
Dimensions: 530 grams, 43.5cm (17").
Provenance: Property of
a Mayfair lady; formerly in an important London
collection formed since 1965.

Western Asiatic Assyrian Panel with Engraved Gods
Date: 1st millennium BC
A sheet bronze rectangular panel with crenellated
upper edge, incised frieze of a standing robed male
figure with crown and four wings confronting a
similar female figure; the male holding a feather in
one hand, the female a bucket and goblet, brazier
between the figures and stars in the field.
Dimensions: 116 grams, 14.7cm (5 3/4").
